Bowling Can Lead to Hearing Loss

It was a bit earlier than usual this past Sunday morning February 28th, when we took Alex bowling, as is our weekly ritual. There were several birthday parties going on at Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl. It was utter cacophony. We could see Alex's hands clapping wildly in a blur but they seemed to produce no detectable sound. It was like in a movie with misadjusted sound tracks where you cannot make out the dialogue because the music is so overpowering. We could not hear the pins crashing over the din of the high pitched squeals of over-excited kids. The decibel level was incredible.

My bright yellow new Minion bowling ball, a Christmas gift from Frank, was smiling happily up at me from the ball return. At least I could see it, if not hear it! So, yes, bowling can indeed lead to hearing loss, although not exactly from the source one might expect.

  1. Mike, our friend working at Dublin Bowl, has pointed out that the bowling alley should be quiet enough to hear a pin fall.

    1. Fortunately the day we were there (April 3rd) it was a bit calmer. It was fun watching both her and Alex use the dino-ramp.
